If you don't have privacy concerns, a radio system with a traditional channel setup will generally work. If privacy is important, you want to look for a unit that operates with interference code capabilities.

This method uses both a channel and code to keep content private. Instead of just setting a channel for communication, you also set a code. For example, you would communicate on channel 5, code 4. This feature prevents other people who might be using the same channel from being able to hear your radio communication because the code system creates a privacy barrier.  

Battery Style

In terms of convenience, it's also a good idea to consider what type of battery style the two-way radio system operates on. You generally have two options, a rechargeable unit or an alkaline battery operated unit. While rechargeable units cost more in terms of upfront cost, in terms of long-term ownership, they are the better option.

With an alkaline battery unit, the battery could die without warning at the most inopportune time. While rechargeable units can also die, making a regular commitment to charge the unit can help you avoid this. Additionally, the battery level reading will offer a warning when it is getting low, offering you greater control.
